South Side Elementary

About the project

The South Side Elementary project is a $12.1 million expansion and renovation that will meet the capacity needs of our student population and eliminate portable classrooms. The project will allow us to:

  • Build an addition
  • Modernize classrooms and common spaces
  • Update infrastucture
  • Address accessibility and safety issues

What's happening now?

  • Spring-Summer 2018 - The project is in the design phase, which means the project management team is working with District and school staff to envision what the building updates will look like. A community info night was held April 3 and the project management team is reviewing suggestions as the design continues to evolve. Design will continue until the end of 2018.

  • Fall 2018 - Community info night was held Tuesday, August 28, 5:30 - 7 p.m. to review the latest design plans. Design will continue until the end of 2018. Utility relocation will begin the last week of November. Community members will begin to see work happening on the outside of the building.

  • December 2018 - March 2019 - Two new portable classrooms were brought to the parking lot between South Side and the Mellon Building mid-December. This will allow us to remove the existing portable classroom for utility work and construction of a new service drive. Utility relocation will occur to make way for the new school addition.

  • Spring 2019 - A groundbreaking event was held Thursday, April 4. Construction of the foundation for the new addition to the east is in progress.

  • Summer 2019 - Construction of the building shell and interior mechanical, electrical and plumbing at the addition continues. Interior renovation work on the first and second floors begins. Fifth grade classrooms will move to the portable structures.
