McKinley Field

About the project

The McKinley Field project is a $6.9 million renovation that will provide updated athletic facilities to Central High School students and coaches. The project will allow us to provide:

  • New synthetic turf football field and track with bleachers and lighting
  • New outbuilding with lockers, toilets, storage and concessions
  • Natural turf, practice football field
  • New parking
  • Adding on-site water detention to improve stormwater runoff

What's happening now?

  • Spring-Fall 2018 - The McKinley Field project is currently in the design phase, which means the project management team is working with District and school staff to envision what the updates will look like. A Community Info Night was held on Tuesday, October 30, 5:30 - 7 p.m. in the Central High School library for community members to see plans and provide feedback. 
     
  • Winter 2019 - Design team is working on construction documents. A community information night was held on February 6, 5:30 p.m. in the board room at the Mellon Building, 703 S. New Street, Champaign.
     
  • Spring 2019 - Bid documents are available. Bids are due May 2. Construction will begin end of May.
     
  • Summer 2019 - Site grading is in progress. Utility work will continue through summer. Installation of the track and field and construction of the fieldhouse began mid-August and continues through the fall.
