McKinley Field Groundbreaking Kicks Off Renovation

Champaign Unit 4 district leaders, board members and Central High School representatives joined Superintendent Dr. Susan Zola, Board President Amy Armstrong, and Principal Joe Williams Thursday for a groundbreaking ceremony at McKinley Field. The event kicks off a construction and renovation of the historic athletics venue.

The McKinley Field project is a $6.9 million renovation that will provide updated athletic facilities to Central High School students and coaches. The project will provide:

  • New synthetic turf football field and track with bleachers and lighting
  • New outbuilding with lockers, toilets, storage and concessions
  • Natural turf, football practice field
  • New parking
  • Additional on-site water detention to improve stormwater runoff
